Womens Foot Health

It’s easy to understand why women’s feet need extra care – you spend long hours on your feet at work and doing all the running around, often in uncomfortable shoes worn in the name of fashion. Your feet go through a lot each day! However, even with all this work, excessive pain is not normal and could be a sign of an underlying foot problem that needs attention.

At my FootDr podiatry centers, we’re committed to helping women look after their feet at all stages of life and all lifestyles. Below are some common foot health issues we see in women:

Heel Pain (Plantar Fasciitis)

Orthotics_MumWomen who have careers where they are required to stand for extended periods, like chefs, teachers, waitresses, nurses and stay-at-home mums can suffer from foot pain, especially in their heels.
If you have pain in the heel or arch after doing work, or if your heel aches first thing in the morning, it could be plantar fasciitis.

How to treat heel pain?

Although plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, a visit to your local Podiatrist will confirm your condition. When you visit your Podiatrist, they will take a thorough history and do a physical examination. If needed, they may do a video walking analysis and 3D scan of your feet. After proper diagnosis, our Podiatrists may prescribe custom-made orthotics. These shoe inserts are designed to support the natural shape of the foot, align the ankle and improve posture and foot function in general.

Fungal Nails (Onychomycosis)

Affecting 10 per cent of the population, fungal nails, or onychomycosis (OM), is a persistent fungal infection caused by fungal spores growing under the nail bed and nail plate. Signs of fungal nail infection include yellow discolouration of the nails, rough ridges and crumbling of the nail.

How to treat fungal nails?

Don’t just hide toenail fungus with nail polish or waste time with paint-on treatments. We offer laser therapy – a quick, painless and effective option to treat fungal nails.

Fungal nail laser treatment easily penetrates the nail and generates heat at the site of infection beneath the nail plate. The fungal cells are destroyed, leaving healthy cells undamaged. All patients feel is a warm sensation on the nail and nail bed.

Bunions, Corns, Calluses and General Foot Pain

If you love a great pair of high heels or wear slip on shoes, you may be at risk of foot problems. Most women who wear heels regularly feel pain in their feet, sometimes within 10 minutes of putting on shoes. High heels or poor-fitting footwear can cause foot problems such as plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, bunions, corns and calluses.

Don’t suffer for fashion any longer. We can recommend footwear options that not only look great, but feel great too. Our Podiatrists can also provide custom-made orthotic inserts designed specifically for high heeled shoes.
