Paraffin Wax Bath

Paraffin Wax Bath TreatmentParaffin wax baths have been used for decades to relieve pain from sore muscles and joints, as well as to help soften the skin. We use medical-grade liquid paraffin wax, which has a unique ability to retain heat and transfer this to the foot and ankle, penetrating into the joints to provide some relief from arthritic complaints. Paraffin wax baths are also great for preparing the feet for your skin and nail care appointment with your podiatrist, by softening the skin and restoring some moisture. This means that hard, thick callus and cracks in the heels can be removed more easily.

Benefits of Paraffin Wax Treatment:

  • Cleansing and opening pores of the skin
  • Softening hard, cracked skin around the heels, enabling easy, painless removal by your podiatrist
  • Improved circulation
  • Stress relief and muscle relaxation
  • Pain relief by gently warming the joints, helping with conditions including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and other joint problems

Paraffin wax is safe and hygienic to use on the skin. We set the temperature of the wax low enough to not cause any burns or blistering, though if you have sensitive skin, you may develop a heat rash that may feel itchy or uncomfortable. If this occurs, you must let your podiatrist know as soon as possible.

The Treatment

Treatment includes dipping the feet and ankles into a bath of liquid paraffin wax, which retains the heat. As the wax solidifies, the heat transfers into the foot and ankle, providing the benefits listed above.

Your paraffin wax foot bath is covered by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs for Gold Card Holders. It is also available through registered Health Funds depending on your level of cover.
